I began reading this novel without reading the synopsis - I like doing that, it adds a certain surprise element. I was happy I had found a story centering around spies and thieves. The last 3 novels I read were romance orientated and this would be a fun break.

Within the first few pages it occurred to me that Ally Carter is a stronger writer than I had considered. She's witty, has an intricate style of phrasing, and adds a fun action/mystery element to the story.

About half way through the novella, I was curious as to know more about this series (as I was aware this was a between novella). What I didn't realize was that this was a crossover novel between Carter's two series - The Gallagher series and Heist Society.

A quick look at Goodreads let's you know that The Ghallagher series is her more popular of the two, but to those who read one and not the other, you're missing out. Hale and Kat were very likeable characters. One smooth, charming, and interesting. The other excitable, smart, and fierce.

This novella was a quick 40-something page read (the other pages are promotional), but it was a good action based story that has made me mark the first novel of both series on my TBR pile.

If you haven't read these series yet, you need to consider it.

P.S. Double Crossed was never released as a paperback novel - as far as I can tell. However, you can currently get it from Amazon. In fact, it's free right now.

Please note: This novella was provided free of charge in exchange for an honest review. The views and opinions are my own.
